Play area saved thanks to the work of residents and your local Lib Dem councillors.
B&NES Council’s plan to downgrade the Chalfield Close Play Area by removing all the play equipment has been rebuffed.
Chalfield Close Play Area is one of two play areas run by B&NES in our town, the rest are looked after by Keynsham Town Council. B&NES were consulting with the suggestion of removing all mechanical equipment and replacing it with more natural materials.
At the consultation meeting in September, members of the community argued successfully that they wanted their play area to stay the same. B&NES Cabinet member, Paul Crossley, and staff have visited the site and now agree with them.
In response to the news local Lib Dem Councillor Andy Wait said, “Hal and I were committed to supporting the local residents’ desire to ensure this much loved play area remained just as it was. I am delighted that the Council have listened and abandoned their plans.”
Due to prompting by Andy, the nature reserve fence next to the play area has also now been repaired.
