This letter from Lib Dem Councillor Dine Romero of Southdown ward was originally published in the Bath Chronicle on 10 March 2016.

Dine_Romero_(2015).jpgTim Newark (Letters, 3 March) must be suffering from short term memory loss. Far from doing ‘little to nothing’ to tackle the gull problem, the previous Lib Dem administration introduced a wide range of successful anti-gull measures.

Just to remind him, these included, but were not limited to, the gull proof waste sacks for black bag rubbish; the scavenge-proof ‘Big Belly’ litter bins; the multilingual information campaigns aimed at residents and visitors; and the continuation of gull egg treatments. We also organised a gull summit and tried out new ideas such as the ‘fire gel’.

The Councils own statistics, published last June, show that these measures led to a dramatic slowdown in the growth of the gull population.
