HGVs flouting weight restriction on Wellsway

Residents on the Wellsway at Keynsham East are reporting significant numbers of HGVs flouting weight restrictions and bringing vehicles, sometimes with overhanging items, up and down the Wellsway.

One Wellsway resident commented “Working in my front garden I was able to count 15 large 6 and 8 wheelers in one day. Besides the weight restriction there is the dangerous narrow section before the Bath Road junction that is used by Wellsway pupils which is the subject of separate campaign to restrict speed. It is, literally, an accident waiting to happen.”

Councillor Hal MacFie commented: ”We are very concerned about this illegal activity and would like to take action. If residents see these vehicles and can do safely please take picture and note the time date and location and send the photograph to Hal_MacFie@bathnes.gov.uk or text it to 07786436656 so we can build up a documentary record of persistent offenders and forward this to the police and to DVSA who issue the Operators Licenses. We will also make sure the signage is more visible and ask the Community Police if they can enforce the restrictions."
