As the Oldfield Park Ward Focus goes to print, it is expected that the planning application by Guild Living, for a mixed use development of the current Homebase site, is to be submitted to the Council by the end of January 2020.

This follows pre-planning consultation by the developer in the autumn , held at the Guildhall, where they sort views of the proposals. At that time the plan was to address intergenerational needs later living accommodation, and state of the art care facilities. The nursery, restaurants and cafes, gym and pool and retail would all be open to the wider public. In addition, the plan then was to provide various communal spaces for the residents including a cinema and library, and space for arts and crafts.

Cllr Shaun Stephenson-McGall said, “I’m sure many local residents will have strong views on the potential future use of this site and I urge you all to look out for the expected application and to study the plans and respond officially to the Council as part of official planning application process.”
