Jay Risbridger has been selected as the Liberal Democrat prospective parliamentary candidate for Bath. The Liberal Democrats are now ready to fight a snap general election.
This follows reports that the new Prime Minister, Tory Theresa May, might go to the country early, before a possible recession and to take advantage of Labour in-fighting.
Jay said: “I am really honoured to have been selected. I have been proud to call Bath my home for 28 years and it would be a huge privilege to represent this wonderful city of ours.”
“I am only too well aware that Bath faces challenges. After a year, people in Bath can see that the joint Conservative Council and Conservative Government are failing to deliver on the issues that matter most, like transport, housing and healthcare.”
Jay, a former member of the Green Party, continued “Local transport is still in a mess; the Council is pushing through unpopular projects, cutting services and putting up council tax; and the Tories are doing nothing to close the inequality gap in this city.”
“The Liberal Democrats will go into the election as the only party committed to protecting Britain’s role in the heart of Europe. I led the Stronger IN campaign in Bath and across the city some 70% of people voted Remain. We are now well placed to fight a general election whenever it is held and I am raring to go.”
“Only the Liberal Democrats are an open, optimistic and united party committed to spreading opportunity for the next generation and focus on re-building the British economy to protect jobs and services.”
Councillor Dine Romero, Leader of the Lib Dems on Bath and North East Somerset Council, commented:
“Jay Risbridger is an experienced, local campaigner who will fight for a better deal for the people of Bath. Having lived and run a business in Bath for almost 30 years, he knows this city from the inside out. Bath deserves a truly local MP.”
