Since being elected in May, Hal and Andy agreed to spend 9.00 to 11.00 on the last Saturday of every month outside the Chandag Shops, apart from December.
Andy says “The first time, I brought a book, but to my surprise, from the very first meeting, we are busy”.
The main topics are parking, particularly on pavements, blocked paths due to vegetation, residents building houses in their gardens, traffic and congestion problems, poor road surfaces and damaged pavements. We have learned a lot and had many successes, one of which was the repair of Chandag Road pavement after it was damaged by HGV’s parking on the pavement, the other the repair done after two days from contacting B&NES Fix my Street which anybody can do.
Parking on pavements is only a crime in London and Scotland though there is a proposed bill to make it illegal everywhere. If parking on the pavement causes an obstruction, for example, if a person pushing a wheelchair cannot get through, phone 101 as that is a criminal offence.
