Walcot Councillor Lisa Brett is calling for the Council to get on and complete the London Road project and guarantee ongoing maintenance.
The scheme, which was an initiative of the previous Liberal Democrat administration, was aimed at rejuvenating the Eastern gateway to the City and improving the environment and opportunities for local people and attracting investment.
Councillor Brett commented:
“The Council has already made a significant investment in improving the London Road environment and street scene, however the new Conservative administration is dragging its feet on completing the project.”
“In December 2015 I put my concerns to the Cabinet member by demanding confirmation of when works would be scheduled for completion and specifically when the repaving of Anglo Terrace would be undertaken. I was told ‘the new calendar year’. It is now September and nothing has happened.”
“What is worse, the elements of the scheme which were previously delivered are not being maintained. Three large trees are now dead, and several others are looking very poorly, due to a lack of maintenance.”
“The Conservative administration’s lack of interest in the London Road area is undoing the good work done by the Lib Dems and wasting tax payers’ money.”
