Community action on neglected London Road

Tired of seeing London Road’s landmark planters full of weeds and litter, local residents and Lib Dem Councillor Richard Samuel have taken matters into their own hands.

A team of community activists from the London Road partnership undertook a spot of ‘guerilla gardening’ and cleared 8 bags of litter and weeds from three of the massive containers.

Walcot’s Lib Dem Councillor, Richard Samuel, commented:

“I was really glad to join local volunteers in working together to spruce up some of the neglected planters. We’ll be back to finish the job, since the Council won’t!

“Local people are sick of London Road being ignored by the Council. The Conservative administration seems hell-bent on destroying all the investment secured by the Lib Dems.

“Not only are the planters being left to fill up with weeds and rubbish, but the works on the cycle route seem to have been abandoned. The loading bay was dug up, fenced off and then just left.

“This has been going on for too long. I have now written to the Cabinet member to demand action to resolve the situation. London Road residents deserve better than this.”
