Letter: Bumpy road ahead

By BathNES Lib Dems 🔶, Jun 29, 2016 11:06

This letter, from Duncan Hounsell, was originally published in The Week In East Bristol and North East Somerset on 30 June 2016.

Duncan_Hounsell_(Saltford_2015).jpgDo you think your road or street needs resurfacing?

If the answer is yes and you live in Keynsham or Saltford, expect a long wait.

In the Conservative-run B&NES Council highways maintenance programme for 2016/17 only Lytton Grove and Turner Close in Keynsham were listed for carriageway resurfacing in this financial year.

A further £500,000 has now been added to this budget but these additional funds have been allocated for carriageway re-surfacing in Bathford, Lansdown, Corston, Temple Cloud and Larkhall.

Once again Keynsham and Saltford lose out.

In contrast, under the previous Lib Dem administration, B&NES Council carried out carriageway surface dressing or micro asphalt surfacing in numerous roads in Keynsham and Saltford. Why the difference, despite a 3.25% increase in council tax under the Conservatives?

Does the answer lie in the savage reduction in funding from central government or is it a reflection on the ability of our local B&NES councillors to speak up for their wards?
