Following the community consultation in the autumn, improvements will be made to the Sandpits playground this Spring.
This should mean a bigger sand pit and new sand play equipment. Details of the final design will be displayed in the Park in the coming months. This follows successful campaigning by local Lib Dem councillors and residents.
The Council is removing the manual water pump, which does not work, but is not making any changes to the stream which runs through the Park.
Local campaigner Jess David said, “Sandpits is a brilliant playground and children love playing around the stream and crossings. I would like to see more investment to make the playground even better for local children; including resurfacing the play area and bringing more natural features into the Park”.
Jess has also met with the Friends for Moorlands Park Group which is raising money and working with local people to improve the fields. Recent improvements have included tree planting in the middle field and new football goal posts.
Jess said, “Our green spaces are what makes the Moorlands area so special. The council needs to work with local people to protect improve and maintain these places.”
