B&NES Council and the local Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) have announced that Virgin Care has been selected as their preferred bidder to coordinate over 200 health and care services in people’s homes and communities.
The Council has stated that the procurement process is still ongoing and no decision has yet been made to award a contract. This will be a decision for the Council and the Clinical Commissioning Group in November 2016.
Councillor Dine Romero, Leader of the Lib Dem Group on B&NES Council, said:
“This announcement does raise some concerns as to whether such a large private company will have the local knowledge and understanding, which is an important factor in delivering community health and care services."
"We will be closely scrutinising the process going forward and will seek to ensure that budgets are used effectively.”
“The Lib Dem administration pioneered new initiatives to help people stay in their own homes for longer, and we continue to support the priorities of prevention and early intervention, joined-up and person-centred care identified by the review.”
