Lib Dems deliver safer, healthier streets… with more to come
Your Lib Dems in Bath and North East Somerset have launched the first School Street and completed a key section of Scholars’ Way as part of their initiative to make journeys to school safer, healthier and easier for children and families.
St Stephen’s Primary School has timed vehicle restrictions at the start and end of the school day intended to cut congestion outside the gates and create a calmer environment for pupils and parents.
Children in the south of Bath are also set to benefit from the completion of the western section of ‘Scholars’ Way’, a linking education sites across the area. The newly completed stretch improves access to four schools and offers a safer, more direct alternative to busy roads.
The changes form part of a wider Lib Dem programme to encourage active and safe travel to school.
Cllr Lucy Hodge, Lib Dem Cabinet Member for Sustainable Transport Delivery, said as part of the council release: “This is a real step forward for young people travelling to school and university. Together with our Bikeability training and road safety work in schools, these projects are helping children feel safer, travel more confidently and make active travel part of everyday life.”
But don’t take our word for it… Look at the difference it makes to people’s lives on this video produced by the council.
